Planning a Tent in Hamilton?
The City requires a building permit when a tent, or a group of tents not more than 3 m apart, covers more than 60 m² (about 646 sq ft). A 20×20 (about 37 m²) or 20×30 (about 56 m²) is under that size; a 20×40 (about 74 m²) or larger is over it. Tents under 60 m² may still need a permit if they're attached to a building or within 3 m of other structures.
Any gathering of 20 or more people in a City of Hamilton park needs a park permit from the City's Recreation Division. Locates are required for any staking or digging in City parks, and the City recommends weights or sandbags.
If your tent needs a permit, we can provide the documents for the permit process on request, including drawings stamped by an Ontario engineer (required for tents of 225 m² or larger) and tent fabric certification to CAN/ULC-S109 or NFPA 701. Can I pick up a marquee tent myself?
No. Marquee tents (20×20 and larger) are delivery and installation only. Customer pickup is not available. Popup tents can be picked up. Self-pickup is at 25 Ellis Avenue, Caledonia: Monday–Friday 9am–7pm and Saturday–Sunday 9am–12pm.
Can you install a tent on a driveway or patio?
Yes. Tents are staked on grass; solid surfaces need weights at an extra cost. A flat site and a line locate are required before setup.
When is my tent set up and taken down?

How much is the deposit?
A 25% deposit is required on all bookings. It's non-refundable, except for a full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of confirmation and the event is more than 2 weeks away. The remaining 75% balance and a refundable security deposit of 25% of the total rental fee are due 5 days before your rental starts (2 weeks before for rentals over $2,000). The security deposit is refunded within 7 business days after all items are returned in good condition, less any deductions for damage (unless covered by the Rental Protection Plan), loss or additional charges.
Is there a Rental Protection Plan?
The Rental Protection Plan is optional and non-refundable: 10% of the total rental fee, available at booking. It covers accidental damage during normal use, excluding negligence, misuse, theft, loss, or intentional damage.
